I'm hoping to learn more about the music production, recording, and mixing processes of the 80's and early 90's. I've always been a huge fan of that sound. Now that I'm a creator of music, intimate knowledge of that era is even more valuable. Hopefully I can learn those traditional techniques and how to reproduce them in our now extremely digital era.

On my end I'm hoping to learn musical skills. I've created a song a few years ago in Garage band but obviously was missing the skills so a lot of guessing. I'd love to be able to create a few songs I'm proud of, and therefore very excited about this course as I listened and loved all of Peter's albums.

I'm hoping to learn about the complete process of music production from initial inspiration to finished product and everything in between. The tools available today are technically better than at any other time in recording history but much of the time it is very easy to identify material made by a hobbyist versus material created by a professional. What do professionals do differently than hobbyists? What can I do differently to create a more professional sounding product? Can a hobbyist create a professional sounding product? How much of what professional do can I, or even do I, accomplish? Can a one man band do everything needed to create professional product and what tools and skills are needed?

I've pretty much been a DIY/Learn it on your own kind of guy. I've got my own ways of doing things and they work for me...but I'm wanting to broaden my horizons and learn some other ways of doing things. No one way is right all of the time, so I figure the more I learn the more prepared I am to handle any challenges that come up.

Hope to gain some insight on making a polished cohesive mix. Hearing the individual tracks of PG's music really shows how much the mix engineer brings out the emotion and atmosphere of the song and ties it all together.
I have trouble doing that when I mix my own music.

I am particularly interested in vocal recording and production. I will be working with a DJ who already has several years of experience with his electronic work, but adding my vocals will be new. I'd like to learn how to do this myself as he is already doing a lot of work on his end. I also have attempted to delve into things like FL Studio, but come out overwhelmed by all there is to know. I know basic music theory and how to read notes, but just looking at Fruity Loops showed me how little I actually knew if I wanted to be serious about production and electronic composition -so hopefully this course will help me not feel so overwhelmed after it is finished.
